Charleston Outlaws' 2007 Memorial Day Tournament - May 29, 2007
This past weekend was the Memorial Day Tournament hosted by our Charleston Outlaws. We were so happy to have 5 women's teams in this year's bracket: Philly women, Savannah WRFC, University of Florida WRFC and 2 sides of the Hurricanes. Congratulations to the Savannah women for taking first place and to University of Fl for second place. It was a fun day of rugby with all of us ending up with scrapes from the dry-ass pitches. Tragically one of our own women injured her knee in the second game, but hopefully it will be a short recovery. The social consisted of a pub crawl from The Brick to Mad River and finally Wild Wings. Thanks again to all of the ruggers that made the journey and we hope everyone had fun!
Charleston Hurricanes Host "Ruggers for Rescue" Fundraiser - April 22, 2007
Thanks to Madra Rua and especially Jason Weber, General Manager, for helping the Hurricanes host our "Ruggers for Rescue" fundraiser. The money raised will help the Hurricanes with tournament and game expenses with a portion going to the John Ancrum S.P.C.A (local chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The evening was a wonderful success as well as fun! Thanks to everyone that came out and showed your support. Without our friends, families and local citizens, it wouldn't have been such a success. We are happy to be able to help the S.P.C.A. and look forward to hosting many more fundraisers that help support a local charity. Please check out the fundraiser's flyer to see what it was all about.

Citadel puts up a good fight - April 21, 2007
The Citadel WRFC is young, but will be a force to be reckoned with. It was a hard fought game Friday night on the Parade Grounds of the Citadel, but age and experience helped the Hurricanes come away with a 30-17 win against the scrappy team. They have several agile runners and tough tacklers as well as tough to tackle girls. We always appreciate and look forward to playing a team with such good character and desire to gain experience. Hopefully some of these girls will play with us once they graduate. We are already blessed to have some help us out.
Hurricanes Continue Winning Streak @ USC - April 9, 2007
Columbia is some tough rugby to get through to have so much fun at the social. The game was fantastic, although we were dropping like flies. Both teams started with 13. We played three 20-min halves and by the end of the second we were down to 11 players. Luckily we had a lead on the Lady Gamecocks and just had to hold tough. The pitch is beautiful--set down in a valley right by the campus--but hard as hell!! I swear its only a layer of dirt and grass on a concrete slab! Thanks to the ladies as well as the guys from Columbia Olde Grey and Fort Bragg for making the social at Delaney's as entertaining as always! Only going to say: "Strip flip-cup?? Game ON!!" Special thanks as always to the Savannah women that made it up--ALWAYS stay for the social!!! We want to see more of it!!
2-1 Record at St. Patty's Tourney - March 12, 2007
We had quite the team going into the tourney! With the help of the Savannah women and a couple of Augusta women we were able to come out with 2 wins and only one loss. Bad luck caused us to matched up against Orlando who ended up taking first place. According to the tournament's bracket system, 2 other teams were placed ahead of us for the 3rd place game despite us having the same record and better scoring games because of our first game loss. Regardless, we had a weekend of great rugby and celebrating St. Patty's Day in one of the best cities--SAVANNAH, GA. Special thanks to the Savannah men who hosted an awesome "warm-up" party during the parade. We look forward to kickin' ass and rockin' out in 2008!
Excitement Builds for St. Patty's Tourney in Savannah... - March 12, 2007
The Hurricanes are getting prepared for the Annual St. Patrick's Day rugby tourney in Savannah, GA. This past Saturday, some of the Savannah women came up for a joint practice. We had a great turnout and was able to practice as a whole side with a couple extras. Special thanks to Dave and Joe for running the practice. We look forward to this tourney for its awesome display of rugby and almost unmatched celebrations that make us all Irish for a day! Look out Savannah, the strong Hurricanes are coming!!!

Hurricanes Hit North Charleston Coliseum - March, 2007
The Hurricanes went to support our SC Stingrays as they took on the Columbia Inferno. Unfortunately, our presence proved too much to ignore and caused the Stingrays to be distracted and ultimately lose 4-6. Some of our girls were fortunate enough to witness some of the Stingray rookies in rare and entertaining form. Karaoke will never be the same! A personal thanks from all of us Hurricanes to the Stingray veterans! Go RAYS! |
2007 Off To A Good Start: Charleston defeats Jacksonville 17-7 - January 21, 2007
With the help of the Savannah Shamrocks and a couple of Augusta women, Charleston was able to defeat a new and upcoming Jacksonville team. It was a very aggressive game loaded with awe-inspiring hits and great ball handling. The social was full of songs and the city, full of great places to continue the party. Thanks to the Jacksonville sides for making it worth the trip down. We look forward to our future encounters. Video will be available soon.

Hurricanes Take 1st Place at Columbia's Grunk 7's Annual Tournament - December 11, 2006
The Hurricanes beat Jacksonville 17-5. It was close loses to both USC and Clemson (10-17 & 7-12 ). We beat Savannah women 22-0. We played against Clemson University for the championship game. This time we completely dominated by scoring 22-7. It was a long, rough day of rugby, but was well worth it in the end bringing home the coveted 1st place trophy to Charleston for the first time. We'd like to thank all of our competitors and hosts Columbia Olde Grey for a spectacular day of rugby! A special thanks to Savannah women and our Charleston Outlaws for cheering us on.

Hurricanes Get An Early Christmas Present - December 3, 2006
The Hurricanes teamed up with some of the ladies from Savannah for this year's annual Toys for Tots 15's tournament put on by Bill Bell of the Citadel. We look forward to this tournament every year because its not only for a great cause (everyone brings an unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps collection), but we match up against teams that always challenge us. Our first game was against the College of Charleston and ended with a 27-12 victory. The 17-0 score against the Citadel doesn't illustrate the closeness of the game. Thanks to some key tackles and turnovers, we were able to come out of this tournament as CHAMPIONS!
